Billions of pounds of plastic can be found in swirling convergences - gyres - in the oceans making up about 40 percent of the world’s ocean surfaces. 80 percent of pollution enters the ocean from the land.
If we are going to produce sustainable seafood, how can we allow plastics and polystyrene to continue to be used in our industry? It is OUR WORKPLACE, the oceans and seas, which are being polluted and we need to share our knowledge and create an action plan.

Already, environmentalists are alerting us to stories about micro-plastics being in our seafood. UN Sustainability Goals 2, 6, 9, 11, 12, 14 & 15 all have some relevance to this important issue but at the end of the day what we, the seafood industry, organize will have the most impact.
Awareness, setting some goals, collaborating across all sectors, innovative solutions need to be found and promoted.
